Like all organisations the quality of the work we do is almost wholly dependant upon the people and staff that provide it.
Whilst Mind in Birmingham has a large number of paid staff, the skills, expertise and enthusiasm that volunteers can bring to us is invaluable.
We have opportunities to assist in all areas of work we do. From providing practical assistance to befriending individuals - plus all the bits in between!
Examples of the work that some of the current volunteers are doing within the organisation:-
What have volunteers said about the opportunity and experiences of volunteering?
”It’s great to be able to give something back to services that I have used in the past”…
…”It gives me the chance to build on my confidence and motivation, to be able to eventually work within the field about going back to work”...
…”it provides me the opportunity to gain valuable experience to then work within the mental health field”
What do we expect of you?
A commitment to the task and a willingness to get involved - if you can only offer a couple of hours per week that’s great .
We will need you to complete an application form and then we will arrange a convenient time for one of our managers to meet with you. We will have to pursue references, but don’t be put off by this as it’s all very informal.
What do we offer?
Our commitment is that we will make sure we match your expectations to the type of volunteering experience we can provide. You may be considering a career in care or maybe just want to gain some experience before you return to work. You may have some specific skills such as IT or admin’ that you would like to share and we will do our best to find some activity that reflects your particular wishes.
We will provide the necessary training and support and reimburse any out of pocket expenses, e.g. bus fares.
We have opportunities all over the city and in different settings ...
